Understand the words behind the image
A visual glossary that connects technical vocabulary to effects you can actually see in a photograph.

Essential photography concepts
Each definition is tied to a visible consequence in the image.

Aperture
Aperture controls how much light passes through the lens and strongly influences depth of field.

Shutter Speed
Shutter speed determines how long the sensor receives light.

ISO
Higher ISO can help in low light, but usually increases visible noise and can reduce image quality.

Exposure
Exposure describes the overall brightness of the image and how much detail is retained in shadows and highlights.

Depth of Field
Depth of field is the area around the focus point that appears acceptably sharp.

White Balance
White balance compensates for the color of the light so the result can look neutral—or deliberately warmer or cooler.

Focal Length
Focal length changes the angle of view and framing. Perspective itself depends mainly on where the camera is positioned.

Exposure Compensation
Exposure compensation asks the camera to make the metered result brighter or darker without rebuilding every setting from scratch.
Turn understanding into action
Knowing the term is useful. Knowing what to change on the next frame is better. Photo Coach connects explanations to practical shooting decisions.
